Regular drinker…
2011 Apello Sauvignon from Marlborough, New Zealand: £7.99/bottle
One of our best-sellers and a great Sauvignon Blanc that we get from a very good source via Marlborough. However, part of the deal in selling to us was that we are not allowed to disclose its source, as they sell their wines in the UK under another label and more expensively!

To enjoy in a few years…
2009 Chateau du Cedre from Cahors, France: £19.99/bottle
A great wine from Cahors, made with Malbec and farmed on an organic basis. This is a weighty, inky, spicy red wine with lashings of red and black fruits, liquorice and mineral complexities on the palate. This really is terrific and will reward even more after laying down for a further five to ten years – epic stuff!

Something a bit different…
2010 12 Volts, 4 Kilos from Majorca, Spain: £21.99/bottle
A wine that’s as funky as the label and is made from a blend of local and international grape varieties. This is the current Penin Winery of the Year, and this one is made from a beguiling mix of local Callet Fogoneu and Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah, showing ripe red fruits on the nose. On the palate, the freshness shines through, creating an elegant juicy finish that leaves you wanting more. Great with chuletas or grilled chicken.

Going local…
2010 Elements, Litmus Wines from Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking: £19.99/bottle
Named after the calcium (Element 20 on the periodical table) that dominates the soils of Dorking, this is possibly one of England’s best wines. Made from a brilliant blend of Bacchus and Chardonnay, fermented in new barrels, it will simply blow your mind.  Rich, complex and silky with great length and only 11%. Very limited production.

For investment…
2006 Chateau Leoville Lascases, St Julien 2ieme Cru Classe from Bordeaux, France: £1,150/Case In Bond
When investing in wine, you have to look at this as seriously as investing in any financial plan and you should invest with the same level of financial commitment too. This wine is one of the premium Chateau from Bordeaux and should give a decent return on an investment, exempt from capital gains tax. Be as careful when investing in wine as anything and research the companies you are buying from.

Taste of the future…
2009 Riesling from Bolfan Primus, Croatia: £12.99/bottle
A truly stunning wine from this country that is pretty new to the UK shelves as a wine producer. This is a beautiful wine that reminds me of an Alsatian Grand Cru yet is half the price. Croatia has some great potential, and in the hands of a serious producer like Bolfan, great wines can be made.

Perfect party gift…
2008 Krone Vintage Rose Brut from Tulbagh, South Africa: £19.99/bottle
This is one of my favourite pink sparklers that I discovered on a trip to South Africa last year. Elegant, subtle and beautifully put together, this in my mind outclasses most Pink Champagnes under £40.
