Three Surrey-based businesses had the honour of supplying wine and food to the royal barge, which carried the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, for the Thames Diamond Jubilee River Pageant.

Speciality catering company Rhubarb Cranleigh was tasked with assembling the order, which celebrated the best of British food and drink, and turned to Taurus Wines of Bramley for a patriotic selection of fine wines.

We were delighted to be involved in selecting these fantastic English wines, says Rupert Pritchett, who runs the award-winning independent wine merchant Taurus Wines from a converted cow shed at Whipley Manor Farm.

This is already a special year for us its our tenth anniversary and these wines are world beaters. Perhaps this prestigious order will help to raise the profile of the best English wines to a position they deserve.

It was an extra special moment for Albury Vineyard near Guildford too, who had the very first bottles of its first-ever wine served on the royal barge.

We were thrilled that our first wine, Silent Pool Rose, was chosen, says Albury Vineyard owner Nick Wenman. It was made exclusively from hand picked organic grapes from our own vineyard in the heart of the beautiful Surrey Hills.
