Surrey Life Food & Drink Awards 2017

We were looking for food led initiatives that aim to make a difference to others in Surrey. Here, we present your finalists for Services to the Community 2017

Farnham Local Food, Farnham

“After a complete relocation, Farnham Local Food’s wonderful volunteers have moved heaven and earth – many tonnes of earth, in fact! – to rebuild this community farm from the ground up,” says head grower Gavin Bridger. “I’m truly proud to be part of such a dedicated and determined team – community is at the centre of everything we do, so being recognised for this award has brought a massive smile to our faces! We look forward to joining you all at Foxhills for awards night.”

Dorking Food Float, Dorking

“Run by the community for the community, our High Street pop-up market stall continues to offer fresh locally produced food and a chat to an ever-growing number of loyal customers,” says chairman Stephanie Wright. “Being recognised by Surrey Life readers is the sort of encouragement which the staff, volunteers, and producers need to keep us afloat. Dorking is humming with people who want to buy good food and to know where it comes from now – we’ve even got a great butchers and greengrocers again!”

Ripley Farmers’ Market

“We are thrilled that our loyal customers and stallholders have nominated us for the category of Services to the Community,” says chair of the volunteer committee, Sally Erhardt. “Ripley Farmers’ Market is completely volunteer run and has just completed its 12th year – where has the time gone?! All our profits are returned to the local community: we try to help all ages, from the toddlers and the youth club to the over 60s club. Our committee members love being part of, and contributing to, our beautiful village and the vibrant county of Surrey as a whole.”
