Archant

If you aren’t blessed with the garden, the time or are still stuck on an allotment waiting list, then you’ll be hard pressed to find fresher fruit and veg in Surrey than at one of our area’s top pick-your-own farms

We visit Garsons in Esher in August’s Surrey Life magazine to discover the industry’s ups and downs but here’s the best of the rest*

*Make sure to check their respective websites to find out what’s currently in season...

Crockford Bridge

Addlestone

While the inclement weather has led to a tricky start for summer 2016, visitors to Crockford Bridge have still been mucking in in their wellies – or seeking the sanctuary of the tea shack, ice cream parlour and Bedouin tent. Open from May to September, Crockford Bridge Farm grows more than 20 different crops of fruit and vegetables on its 75 acres.

Opening times: Monday to Wednesday, 10am to 5.30pm; Thursday and Friday, 10am to 6pm; Saturday, 9am to 6pm; and Sunday, 10am to 5pm

Where: New Haw Road, Addlestone, near Weybridge, Surrey KT15 2BU

Flower Farm

Godstone

Despite remaining something of a hidden gem, Flower Farm has offered pick-your-own crops since 1975. It’s not just fruit and veg here, as you’ll also find Godstone Vineyard and Oxted Brewery enjoying the local surrounds as well as a butchers, farm shop and tea room. Smaller than our other options here, they still have strawberries, raspberries and blackberries to be picked this year.

Opening times: Monday to Sunday, 9am to 6pm

Where: Oxted Road A25, Godstone, Surrey RH9 8BP

Web: flowerfarmshop.co.uk

Garsons

Esher

Although it’s known today as the country’s largest pick-your-own farm (there’s more than 30 different crops), Garsons of Esher didn’t start out that way. 145 years ago, the farm grew fresh produce to sell at London’s Borough Market, and only began selling directly from the fields in the 1980s with its first crop of pick-your-own strawberries.

Opening times: Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm; Sunday, 9am to 5pm

Where: Winterdown Road, Esher, Surrey KT10 8LS

Web: garsons.co.uk

Secretts

Milford

A veritable powerhouse of fruit and veg growing, Secretts has long been supplying discerning pubs and restaurants with their top quality produce. Located at Hurst Farm, just down the road from Godalming, they’ve been on location since 1937 - with family-owned roots that go all the way back to 1908. Today, you’ll find an award-winning farm shop, expanding wholesale produce business and, yes, a pick-your-own farm.

Opening times: Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm; Sunday, 9am to 4.30pm

Where: Hurst Farm, Chapel Lane, Milford, Surrey GU8 5HU

Web: secretts.co.uk
