But with our judging panel having deliberated long and hard to whittle down the thousands of nominations, here we bring you this year’s hotly-anticipated shortlist of the finalists - and what it means to them...

The Art of Curry, Godalming

Having launched The Art of Curry just five months ago, it feels incredible to have been nominated. I started the business because I could not find fresh, authentic curries that tasted as good as my mum’s, or sauces that I could cook with quickly and give to my daughter without feeing guilty about additives or blandness. I felt that the people of Surrey should have the chance to experience the amazing tastes of curries that are slow cooked in the traditional royal style, in their own kitchens.

Passionate About Fish, Camberley

We’re a family run, traditional fishmongers and specialise in fresh, wild capture, seasonal British fish and shellfish. Having spent more than 35 years in the seafood industry we have lots of knowledge and real passion for what we do, and that’s what our customers tell us they love. Buying fish can be quite scary, so we do everything we can to make it easy, offering advice on the different fish and how to cook it. We feel very proud to have been nominated for this award by our customers, and are so grateful to everyone who voted for us.

The Restaurant at Tante Marie, Woking

It really is an honour to be nominated for the Surrey Life, Food & Drink Awards. The Newcomer of the Year nomination is an amazing boost to the team at Tante Marie for all their hard work over the last nine months. To be recognised by our local community is warming and makes us feel at home in our new surroundings in Woking town centre. The response from all our clientele has been one of intrigue and appreciation of our vision and unique approach to hospitality and culinary art, we look forward to the future ahead of us.
