Brewing in Tongham since 1992, Hogs Back Brewery made the ordering of a pint of TEA a thing in pubs across the country and is playing its part in the hop growing renaissance

Your best-seller? Our top seller is TEA (Traditional English Ale). It was the first brew from Hogs Back Brewery when it started 25 years ago, and has remained largely unchanged since then.

Your personal fave? Hogstar English Craft Lager, which we created a few years ago, is one of my favourites. It’s brewed with five different hops, selected herb extracts and matured for over a month to allow flavours to deepen.

Your most unique? Farnham White is genuinely unique to Hogs Back Brewery as it is brewed with the Farnham White Bine hop variety – we are the only brewer in the world to use this hop, as we grow it exclusively in our hop garden!

One you wish was yours… I love the St Feuillian Blond which I came across when I visited a range of Belgian brewers some years ago – I liked the subtle addition of botanicals and that is what inspired what we are doing with our Hogstar craft lager.

What’s next stage for your brewery? Our priority at the moment is to increase capacity at the brewery, which we need to meet the growing demand for our beers, particularly TEA and Hogstar. We’ve installed new dual-purpose fermenting and maturation vessels, and are also investing in a new boiler and chiller system, new hop store, keg racker and sterile filtration equipment. We’re investing around £400,000 in this development stage– that’s a lot of stainless steel!

Finally, where’s the best place for people to try your beer? Our Brewery Shop sells our draught beer straight from the stillage, so you can try before you buy, as well as our full range of bottles. Hogs Back beers are also available at local independent shops including Godalming Food Company, Inn at Home, Guildford Wine Company, Cobbetts in Dorking and Majestic Wine.
