When is a pub not a pub? When it’s a micropub, of course...

Cobbett’s Real Ales

What?

Among a new breed of micropubs, Cobbett’s Real Ales is best known as an extremely well-stocked shop but has recently expanded its offering so that visitors can try the draught beers on site as well, instead of having to wait until they’re home.

Where?

While the shop is named after William Cobbett, a family ancestor, who was born in Farnham in the 1760s, Cobbett’s is actually found among the antiques shops of Dorking’s famous West Street.

Why?

With numbers inside limited to around 20 and no music, televisions or games machines, this is a place for people to visit and chat. They even plan to have a ‘book swap’ – take home a book and replace it with an old one of yours.

• There are plans afoot for a micropub in Whyteleafe called The Broken Drum.
