I like cooking it, eating it, growing it, picking it and most of all sharing it. I hope this blog will help me to share my passion for great tasting nosh. I look forward to scribbling recipes, restaurant reviews, interesting info about local producers as well as providing an insight into the food industry for my readers. All comments and suggestions exceptionally welcome!
As this is my first blog post, I thought I would introduce myself – Hello, nice to meet you I’m Jacqueline and here’s a bit about how and why I became a chef:
My mother is an excellent cook as was her mother before her. Some of my earliest memories are of us preparing dinner or making fairy cakes together; food has always been a shared passion for us. After graduating from Reading University in History, I worked in Publishing for a few years before following my heart and studying to become a Cordon Bleu chef at Tante Marie (www.tantemarie.co.uk) in Surrey. I wanted to be my own boss and have the freedom to create something interesting. The idea of earning a living through making others happy through food was exceptionally attractive to me. Tante Marie is one of the leading culinary academies in the world covering all areas of cookery. I learnt exceptionally valuable recipes and techniques from classical French to modern Asian and sugar craft.
I worked as a chef in a huge variety of places across Surrey, Sussex and London to expand my food knowledge base. I learnt to skin deer while working in my local butchers in Cranleigh, baked bread at 2am at my local bakers and threw myself into the hospitality industry with determination and an open mind. I have worked at top hotels and restaurants such as the The Ritz London, The Pass; South Lodge Hotel in Horsham, the Radisson Edwardian in Guildford and Wotton House Hotel in Dorking as well as many fantastic country pubs across the South. I worked for Rhubarb, one of the most respected catering companies in the industry, and with them I cooked for the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace. I have also catered for clients at Ascot, Twickenham and Goodwood.
Since starting my own business last year as a Private Chef and Caterer, I now prepare food for a whole host of different events from weddings to birthday parties. A passionate and creative chef, I live my life like a sponge – learning and absorbing everything I can, always happy to listen to advise and I hope to never get set in my ways. I think that’s why I love cooking so much as there is always something new to try. Whether it be a new recipes, ingredient or restaurant to visit, I hope my meagre scribbling in this blog might inspire you to try new things too and we can share our love of good food together.
