With record numbers of votes received from the people of Surrey, competition has been fierce during the third Surrey Life Food & Drink Awards. But with our judging panel having deliberated long and hard to whittle down the thousands of nominations, here we bring you this year’s hotly-anticipated shortlist of the finalists - and what it means to them...
Best Local Menu finalists
Sponsored by Surrey Hills Enterprises
Britten’s Restaurant, Guildford
We are absolutely thrilled. Local produce and ingredients are the life blood of the food we serve at Britten’s, and we are evangelical about it! Not only does local, seasonal produce inspire me to create sensational dishes, but we want our customers to know that the fresh flavours, textures and tastes that we serve them are from producers, growers and suppliers on their doorstep. We consider our local suppliers to be more like partners and with their input we produce food to shout about!
The Onslow Arms, West Clandon
We feel honoured and proud to have been nominated for providing Surrey’s best menu. Our team of chefs take time to produce an appealing, home cooked, top quality and affordable menu, combining old favourites – like calves liver and homemade sticky toffee pudding – with mouth-watering daily specials such as whole baked sea bass and locally grown asparagus. We only use the best local and national suppliers, getting our meats from Conisbees, East Horsley and Walton meats. Our fruit and vegetables are delivered directly each morning from Covent Garden to ensuring quality and freshness. To win this award would be the icing on our kitchen’s cake!
Bletchingley Arms, Bletchingley
We are thrilled. We only opened in November last year so are very proud to have received such recognition already. We have a wide-ranging main menu and a regularly changing specials menu where we try to match locally produced meats and dairy products with seasonal fruits and vegetables, offering our customers real quality and choice. We don’t aim for the gastro pub market but owe our success to good, honest pub food made well and priced fairly.
