Tormead

As the head teacher of Tormead in Guildford, Surrey, Christina Foord already has her hands pretty full, but if she was PM for the day, she says she’d establish what would be in the best interests of all schoolchildren – and then stick with it!

If you hadn’t become a teacher, what would you have done instead?

I think I would probably have become a lawyer.

What were your favourite lessons when you were at school?

English, history and games.

Was there any type of school dinner that you couldn’t stand?

Many – but particularly parsnips (masquerading as chips!) and semolina.

How do you like to relax?

Mostly by either reading or walking the dogs.

Which is your favourite film?

My Left Foot – the true story of Irish cerebral palsy victim Christy Brown, played by Hugh O’Conor as a child and Daniel Day-Lewis as an adult.

So, your Desert Island Disc…?

It would have to be the slow movement of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto.

If you were Prime Minister for one day, what’s the first thing you’d do?

Talk to the teaching associations across all sectors to establish what is wanted in the best interests of the nation’s schoolchildren and then stick with it!

School of thought...

Maths or English?

English, because it allowed me to appreciate wonderful literature, then to teach it and ultimately end up where I am today.

School dinners or packed lunch?

In my schooldays, packed lunch, but now school dinners – the catering team here is fantastic.

Newsletter or Twitter?

Both but with a preference for the newsletter as I’m quite fond of words, and lots of them.
