In our Education ezine headteachers tell us about their school life and give us an insight into what their school is like to attend. Fascinating and helpful to know when considering school choices.

Nicholas Folland of Blundells Preparatory School, Tiverton, Devon.

My background is: Firstly as a professional Cricketer then as Teacher of the Deaf. I moved to Blundells School firstly teaching senior aged pupils and then as a Boarding House Master before becoming Head Master at the Prep School.

Our School/College is: Co-Educational Preparatory School, 3 - 11

A typical day for me involves: Meeting parents, appreciating the company of the children, teaching, meetings and enjoying fresh air and fun on the games field.

What makes us different is: Huge breadth in the curriculum and beyond the classroom, excellent communication with parents, strong pastoral care and honesty.

We try to instil into our pupils: Confidence and social awareness. Always to try hard and not giving up even when it is difficult.

Our school motto is: Non Sibi not for ones self

Noel Neeson, St Peters School, Exmouth

My background is: This is my second Headship and I am a member of the National College of Heads.

Our School/College is: An outstanding, friendly prep school for girls and boys aged 3-13, set in the heart of Devon.

A typical day for me involves: Meeting with parents, teaching and driving my vision forward with children, staff and parents.

What makes us different is: We offer a wide range of opportunities from Academic, Art, Sport, Drama and Music. We also offer sailing, horse riding and many other activities.

We try to instil into our pupils: That life is for living and you get out of life what you put in hard work and endeavour are key.

Our school motto is: Believe it, achieve it!

The thing we are most proud of is: Our children and how they turn out.

Looking into the future, we want to: Be the beacon school in the South West.

Simon OMalley, Wellesley House School, Broadstairs, Kent

My background is: I grew up overseas and attended The Oratory School as a boarder giving me a broad outlook on life and therefore, in turn, education. My grandfather was the Deputy Head so teaching runs in the family. He taught me English brilliantly; I teach English still.

Our school/college is: A small, co-educational boarding and day preparatory school on the southeast coast for children aged seven to 13. Relationships between staff and children are excellent. There is a strong sense of respect for each other and the community of the school. Leavers go onto a wide range of public schools such as Kings Canterbury, Benenden, Harrow, Eton, Tonbridge and Stowe, among others.

A typical day for me involves: There is no such thing as a typical day. Every day is different and thats all part of the fun. I enjoy seeing what it brings.

What makes us different is: We live here; the children and staff together. Being a part of the Wellesley family teaches a great deal.

We try to instil into our pupils: A sense of purpose, a belief that there is nothing they cannot achieve, to aim high and to respect everyone.

Our school motto is:Although not written anywhere, we often talk about being the best you can be.

The thing we are most proud of is:The amount of success that comes from such a little place and what a great deal our pupils are able to achieve, particularly given that we do not have entrance tests.
