This October sees the launch of the Guildford International Concert Season 2014/15 at Guildford’s concert hall, G Live. Featuring renowned orchestras, conductors and soloists, it’s the ideal opportunity to hear world-class music without the hassle of travelling up to London.

Sponsored by Azamara Club Cruises, this exciting concert programme runs from Wednesday October 15, 2014, to Friday May 15, 2015, and features performances from the Russian State Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Bern Symphony Orchestra.

Since opening in 2011, G Live has played host to numerous stars of the classical world. As well as international players such as pianists Sunwook Kim and Joaquín Achúcarro, this season includes home-grown talent such as Alexander Sitkovetsky, who attended the Yehudi Menuhin School in Cobham, and Chloë Hanslip, who hails from Guildford.

And if you’re wondering why these international orchestras are flocking to Guildford, you need look no further than the building itself. The award-winning, modern design means no view is obstructed and G Live’s extraordinary acoustics allow musicians to hear new depths in their performances so the resulting sound is enriched. In fact, G Live has been described as ‘one of the finest new concert halls to have opened recently in Europe’ by the pianist and conductor Freddy Kempf.

If you’re taking the plunge into classical music for the first time then there are numerous pieces within the season that you will already recognise and love, including Beethoven’s Symphony No.6 ‘Pastoral’, which is featured in Disney’s Fantasia (performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in November) and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, which features in Classic FM’s Ultimate Hall of Fame (performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in May).

And it’s never been easier to introduce your family to classical music thanks to G Live’s special ticket prices for students and under-16s. Students are able to take advantage of £10 tickets for each concert, while under-16s will be able to see the majority of concerts for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
