Need help to create your perfect wedding hair and make-up? Here are some tips from expert hair stylist Teresa Weller, plus a chance to win your bridal hair and make-up for the big day
Having just celebrated her first year in her Dorking salon, Teresa Weller has already worked with numerous brides across the Surrey region.
The boutique salon, which Teresa runs alongside creative director, Egidio Sala, has become a go-to destination for brides looking for something a little different for bridal hair. Since she began her long and illustrious career, Teresa has become one of the most sought after bridal hairdressers and is an expert when it comes to dressing long hair. She has travelled all over the UK and Europe to ensure brides look and feel at their very best on their special day.
Over the last 12 months, Teresa has noticed a distinct change in the kind of styles her brides are opting for and her own bridal shoots reflect this new mood. "Many brides want a more informal wedding altogether inspired by the popularity of events such as summer festivals," she explains. "Wedding dresses and make up are more simple in keeping with the surroundings and so is the hair."
For Teresa, it's a case of paring back the look and opting for soft, natural styles. Braids and open braids are popular with lots of hair left loose to frame the face. Nothing looks too dressed or structured so, if you're opting for curls, make sure they are loose and tousled.
If your dream is to have long, loose curls and you've not quite achieved the necessary length in time for the big day, tape extensions are an excellent addition.
"Having tape extensions is great not just for the wedding, but on honeymoon too as it makes your hair far more versatile," Teresa suggests. "Many brides I have worked with love their extensions so much that they continue to have them after the wedding!"
Easy to attach to your own hair, tape extensions give a super natural finish and create not only length but volume as well, which is important if you want to create and secure a loose plait or braid.
In keeping with the boho theme of many current weddings, Teresa is finding her brides favour wearing fresh flowers in their hair rather than the more traditional tiaras. "Often our brides will pick beautiful wild flowers from the area where the wedding is taking place and match them with their table decorations and bouquets," she says. "It makes the wedding far more personal and original and, of course, wild flowers loosely worked into the hair are perfectly in keeping with a more natural, paired back wedding."
