INSPIRATIONcan come from the strangest of places and no one is more aware of that than Reigate artist Kirsten Baron, who features in a new exhibition taking place at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking this month.

The things that fire up my imagination are often slightly odd I like to draw attention to the beauty of the small and hidden, the everyday and the damaged, says Kirsten. For example, one series of paintings, if you dont mind broken things, was started off by some cracked paving slabs in Redhill.

Many of the best moments happen when I walk my dogs on Reigate Heath or in Felland Copse. Currently, Im gathering photos of clouds and pylons for my next project.

Having been drawing and painting all her life, she went on to attend a foundation course at Reigate School of Art and Design as a mature student, before moving on to the Surrey Institute of Art and Design to study Graphic Design & Illustration.

An area co-ordinator forSurrey Artists Open Studios in Reigate & Banstead, Kirsten takes great pride in supporting local artists.

My single proudest moment was the success of a private student, a lovely home-schooled girl who took weekly lessons with me for a year and got an unconditional entry to the foundation course of her choice;all on the strength of the work she produced in my studio.

Having exhibited at Denbies previously, and participated in their Bacchus Awards, Kirsten is particularly looking forward to joining the other seven artists at the Atmospheric exhibition there.
