Medicine Garden, Cobham

Once a derelict and almost forgotten Victorian walled garden, The Medicine Garden has been transformed in recent years for everyone one from avid foodies (two cafés plus the Blid & Hatton food studio) to those looking to explore yoga, pilates and even tai chi. It’s a perfect place to relax and recuperate. They are hosting a spring fayre on Bank Holiday Monday May 1. Tickets: entry is free.

The Medicine Garden, Downside Road, Cobham KT11 3LU. Tel: 01932 589536. Web: themedicinegarden.com

Petersham Nurseries, Richmond

Long a favourite of the area’s rich and famous, as well as those in the know, who know what a tranquil oasis it is, Petersham Nurseries has a magical quality. Lunch in The Café, surrounded by stunning spring blooms, is one for ‘the must do soon list’. Tickets: entry is free

Petersham Nurseries, Church Lane, Richmond TW10 7AB. Tel: 020 8940 5230. Web: petershamnurseries.com

Priory Farm, South Nutfield

Home to Surrey Life’s 2016 Farm Shop of the Year, but also so much more. Though they’ve different owners these days, you’ll find an excellent garden centre and café, a family nature trail, a mountain boarding centre and that farm shop here. Tickets: prices vary

Secret Gardens, across Surrey

It would be remiss of us not to mention the National Garden Scheme, which gardens across Surrey open for throughout the year – naturally, spring is peak time. Click here for Surrey Life’s annual ‘25 of the best’ list.

Sunbury Walled Garden, Sunbury-on-Thames

This historic walled garden was built in the early part of the 18th century. It’s home to Sunbury Embroidery Gallery and The Millennium Embroidery. There’s also a lovely café. Tickets: entry is free
