Great things to do in Surrey this weekend: art exhibitions, walks, concerts, theatre, places to visit and other events and ideas.

Details of events correct at time of publishing.

Meditations - Ongoing event

Guildford Cathedral

Guildford Cathedral recently unveiled its latest exhibition, Meditations, featuring the work of renowned ceramic artist and University for the Creative Arts (UCA) lecturer Ashley Howard.

Guildford Gin Festival - Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 April

The UK’s biggest and best gin festival is coming to Guildford, offering a huge variety of tipples from all over the world. With live music, great food and a gin cocktail bar, there will also be the opportunity to take part in a gin masterclass and meet distillers in person, sampling their wares. Tickets: from £11.

The Importance of Being Earnest - Saturday 28 April

Holy Trinity Church, Guildford

Already one of our nation’s funniest plays, the “exhilarating” Split Second Productions is making its unique mark with their “ingenious” re-telling of the story where two actors will play every single character. Rapid quick-changes, tap dancing, fabulous frocks and enough tea to sink a ship, audiences are in for a wildly waggish time.

Madama Butterfly - Saturday 28 April

G Live, Guildford

7.30pm. Gracing the stage at G Live, this popular opera will tell the heartbreaking story of the beautiful young Japanese girl who falls in love with an American naval lieutenant with dramatic consequences. Featuring the melodic humming chorus, the moving aria One Fine Day and the unforgettable Love Duet, it will be a performance to remember. Tickets: from £27.50.

Son of a Preacher Man - Until Saturday 28 April

New Victoria Theatre, Woking

Four days with Picasso - Until Sunday 29 April

The Lightbox, Woking

A never seen before collection of informal photographs of Picasso with his friends and family at home in the South of France. The photography tells the story of a chance encounter between amateur British photographer Stanley Stanley and the Spanish artist in the summer of 1954.

Photography Workshop: Bluebells - Sunday 29 April

Nower Wood Educational Nature Reserve, Leatherhead KT22 8QA

10am-4pm. Spend an enlightening day with professional photographer Adrian Davies learning various photographic techniques. Adrian will spend some time in the classroom discussing methods and equipment before going out into the woods for your practical session. This class is suitable for photographers of all abilities. Admission: SWT members £50, non-members £62.
