The weekend is fast approaching and for those still deciding how to spend their Friday through to Sunday, we pick five of the best ways to spend your weekend in Surrey
Having first opened its doors on September 14 2007, The Lightbox is inviting everyone that has helped make the last 10 years a success to a special family-friendly birthday party. There will be a ‘Butterflies and Bugs’ workshop, The Friends of Woking Palace will bring alive the Tudor history of the area and there will be a special 70th anniversary display of Kenwood cookware, who were originally based in Woking. It’s also a fantastic excuse to hunt down the amazing Sean Henry sculptures that are popping up around the town.
RHS Wisley is opening its garden particularly early this week for professional and amateur photographers alike to capture the true beauty of an autumn morning. The gates open at 7.30am (which means no lie-ins this Saturday), but the beautiful scenery will be well worth waking up early for. Normal garden admission applies (£14 for adults and £7 for children) and tickets can be booked in advance for a 10% discount.
Ever fancied foraging for your own ingredients in the rolling Surrey countryside? Well now you can. Wild Food UK have organised a foraging course to take place this weekend. Foragers will meet at the Woodman Pub, Woodmansterne at 12pm, before listening to a 30 minute introduction and then taking a 2-3 hour walk through the woods. The course will finish with a wild food lunch. Book your place on the website – be quick though as spaces are filling up!
Foxhills will host the highly contested transatlantic PGA Cup this weekend. The Surrey golf club has two championship courses - the Bernard Hunt and it is the long-term venue for the Senior PGA Professional Championship. Previous professional tournaments hosted at Foxhills have included the European Tour’s Tournament Players Championship and the Tour’s Qualifying School.
5. Treat yourself to a Sunday lunch with the family
Sunday lunchtimes are made for lazing in a cosy pub with a beer in hand and an overflowing plate of delicious roast dinner on the table. In Surrey we’re lucky to have an array of great quality restaurants and pubs, serving some of the finest Sunday lunches. We picked 12 of our favourites to choose from – read about them here.
