Surrey Life Food & Drink Awards 2017

Archant

We were on the hunt for someone who has created a little food and drink magic! Whether it’s a new product or concept, the winner of this award is going to be someone that has really got people talking by thinking outside the box and creating something new. Here’s our finalists...

Silent Pool Distillers, Albury

“We have been fortunate that the residents of Surrey support us so well by being such enthusiastic gin drinkers – and, on top of that, they’ve again nominated us for a Surrey Life Food and Drink Award,” says founding partner Ian McCulloch. “We have had another great year: we have created new gins, expanded to more countries and converted many more people to a world of quality spirits. As ever we have tried to respond creatively to what customers want and we think that really sets us apart – fortunately they seem to think so too.”

Briscoe’s Jellies, Merstham

“Humbled, honoured, surprised and tremendously excited goes somewhere to describing how we felt being acknowledged as a finalist for innovation in this year’s Surrey Life Food & Drink Awards” says director Jon Briscoe. “Adapting and innovating has become more of a fundamental need to solving the challenges faced by many a business in this day and age, so to be recognised in such a manner makes us incredibly proud and even more determined. We’ve been to the awards before and can’t wait to meet the other finalists there.”

Crumbs Brewing, Reigate

“Crumbs! We’re flabbergasted to be finalists,” says chief ‘Crumber’ Morgan Arnell. “Since starting to work on the idea of making beer using leftover bread in late 2016, it’s been a very steep learning curve. We are passionate our product not only does something to address the growing issue of food waste but also does justice to the amazing artisan ingredient we get from Chalk Hills Bakery. We’ve had so much support from locals that we sold out of our first brew in less than eight weeks. New brews using different breads are already being planned!”
