Best coffee shops in Surrey
PUBLISHED: 15:34 11 April 2017
With UK Coffee Week brewing up from Monday April 10 to Sunday April 16, here we take a look around our county at some of Surrey’s very best coffee shops
24 Church Road, Great Bookham, Surrey KT23 3PW. Tel: 01372 454360
Just around the corner from the National Trust’s Polesden Lacey, Carolina’s is a quaint little place that’s fit for royal visitors. Their breakfast granola and yoghurt is an Instagram smash. You can also pick up some Coffee Real beans (formerly of Newdigate but now just over the border near Rusper, Horsham) while you’re there.
Cromwell Coffee House
Oliver House, 97 High Street, Cranleigh, Surrey GU6 8AU. Tel: 01483 273783
Found in an historic beamed building dating from the 1560s, on Cranleigh’s sprawling High Street, Cromwell Coffee House has many tales to tell – and it’s the perfect place for a leisurely cuppa with some friends.
Cullenders Deli & Kitchen
13 Bell Street, Reigate, Surrey RH2 7AD. Tel: 01737 240800
Surrey Life’s current independent food and drink retailer of the year, Cullenders offers a friendly welcome for breakfast, lunch and even, occasionally, a pop-up supper club dinner. Their coffee is great and you can pick up some deli goodies while there.
48 High Street, Haslemere, Surrey GU27 2LA. Tel: 01428 656904
Far more than a mere coffee house this, Hemingways is a one-stop shop of entertainment – some refer to it as “Jekyll & Hyde” because between 5pm and 6pm each day this coffee shop transforms itself into a wine bar and continues on into the night.
6 Tunsgate, Guildford, Surrey GU1 3QT. Tel: 01483 813360
There’s some seriously good food going on at Kalm Kitchen these days – and they also happen to run a highly-rated catering business from Puttenham. Their café is still an excellent spot for coffee and cake though, even with their broad horizons. Impressive stuff.
Krema Coffee House
5 Downing Street, Farnham, Surrey GU9 7PB
With riverside walks and Farnham Maltings only a coffee bean flick away, Krema it’s all about location, location, location with Krema, a popular independent coffee shop on Downing Street – in fact, Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer popped in recently for a cup of their best while filming.
Nest Home & Café
High Street, Ripley, Surrey GU236AQ. Tel: 01483 211933
Ripley villagers are rather spoilt, as these next two entries will attest to. First up, Nest draws people from far and wide as a “lifestyle destination with a difference.” Whether looking to enjoy a superb Italian coffee or a browse of their antiques, tableware, home accessories and gifts from around the world, it’s a must-visit.
Pinnock’s Coffee House
High Street, Ripley, Surrey GU23 6AF. Tel: 01483 222419
Pinnock’s is Surrey Life Food & Drink Awards royalty, as they were the first to win a category twice in consecutive years – tea/coffee shop of the year in 2013 and 2014. They haven’t lost their touch either and it remains a beautiful little place for a little caffeinated escapism.
Surrey Hills Coffee
23 Chapel Street, Guildford, Surrey GU1 3UL. Tel: 07903 045348
The story of Surrey Hills Coffee starts in Sweden. Having run a coffee business there for almost 12 years, owners Chris and Monika moved into the British market and eventually found themselves in Forest Green near Dorking. Their next step was to launch their popular Guildford café – where you can buy their coffee creations to take away as well as drink in.
Thyme by the River, East Molesey
East Molesey Cricket Club Grounds, Surrey KT8 9AL. Tel: 07468 581795
Something a little different to finish: a still bustling cricket pavilion that acts as a high quality hub for the community, as well as cricketers. Found alongside the Thames, they have a river deck and tea room and it’s just an idyllic place to watch the world go by. We’re told their summer ‘Thyme’ iced coffees are particularly popular as the temperatures climb.
