Bevan’s Butchers, various

With four outlets at Kingston, Garsons in Esher, Longacres in Bagshot and Effingham, this Surrey group is headed up by Robin Bevan, the fourth generation of his family to run the business since it was started by his great-grandfather in Kingston in 1929.

Dorking Butchery

The proactive boys at Dorking Butchery have really made their mark on Dorking High Street and have played their part in various creative foodie-led events in the town, including Gamestock and Goatober.

F Conisbee & Son, East Horsley

Based in East Horsley since 1784, F Conisbee & Son rear between 350 to 400 cattle, 600 to 900 sheep and nearly 4,000 turkeys on their own 800-acre farm in the Bookham and Fetcham area.

James of Shepperton

With more than 20 years’ experience in butchering, James of Shepperton is run by husband and wife team, James and Katie Lally. They also offer popular butchery masterclasses.

PJ Dale, East Molesey

This shop has traded in meat for more than 150-years and some of the original 1860 decorative Victorian Royal Doulton tiles can still be found on the walls. They even supply some of Hampton Court Palace’s meat.

Priory Farm Shop, South Nutfield

Inside the farm shop at Priory Farm, which was named the county’s best at the 2016 Surrey Life Food & Drink Awards, you’ll find a butcher’s counter worthy of such an establishment.

Serving the local community in the village of Pyrford, Graham Turner’s team pride themselves on top-quality meat that is hard to find in pre-packed supermarket aisles.

Rawlings of Cranleigh

Established in 1982, Rawlings is a family-run business owned by Robert Rawlings, who has had a lengthy career in the butchering trade and prides himself on the quality and sourcing of their meat.

Robert and Edwards, Reigate and Oxted

Something of an absolute institution in the towns they serve, Robert and Edwards have a habit of producing innovative collaborations with other local foodies, which tells you all you need to know about their field to plate credentials.

Surrey Hills Butchers, Oxshott

Two-time butcher of the year at the Surrey Life Food & Drink Awards, 30-something butcher Simon Taylor has worked in traditional butcher shops since he was 13. You might have also spotted him at local events championing what had become a bit of “a dying art form”.
